Impressions and results
During the course we have learned technical aspects related to shooting, like how to frame depending of what we want to get (objective shooting, subjective shooting,..); how to pay attention to the lights we need when shooting; camera angle; symmetry; colour control and colour balance and in general the use of colour in films.
We have also learned what is important in the process of creating a script: the three acts structure of a script; the influence of Ancient Greek Tragedy to Modern Scriptwriting; how to build the hero and the secondary characters; the steps of the hero; the importance of defining the goal; the importance of defining "the dramatic question" at the beginning of the film; the importance of understanding that every scene has a meaning and conflict relationships must exist; and the concept of "catarsis" and "polarity" as essential principles of storytelling.
Moreover we have learned about applications to use in the process of scriptwriting and shooting with mobile phones as well as applications to edit our work. We have, as a group, put in practice our creativity building up a story with its characters, and we have had the opportunity to taste what is to be an actor with an spontaneous performance.
The topic of the course has been very interesting. We didn't know anything about filmmaking and storytelling, and the course has opened our interest in this field. We feel we have a new tool to use in our classroom to motivate students. We can use what we have learned to guide them in the process of creating and writing a small story, building up the hero and the other characters, writing dialogues and helping them to film it. The whole process develops general competences in the students and specific competences depending on the subject we teach.
From the cultural point of view, It has been a great experience to travel to Corfu and to know more about this beautiful island, about the history, the culture, the cuisine and the people who live there.
