STREET GAMES
Street games gained popularity in our country several years ago. However, our school has a much longer tradition of organizing such events. The game is closely related to – Jan Nowak- Jeziorański, who the school is named after, and it refers to the biography of the renown Courier from Warsaw. Hence the name of the game - 'Courier Rally through Warsaw'. The idea came from a (retired now) teacher and all teachers of our school were involved in organizing the event.
What does the game involve? Groups of pupils have to find places connected with Jan Nowak- Jeziorański, basing on a map and mysterious, encrypted information. The next step involves doing a variety of tasks, like answering questions connected with the Jeziorańki’s biography or determining azimuth. After completing the tasks, the contestants are given QR codes which are part of the riddle to be solved by the end of the rally. After reaching the finish line, the pupils hand in filled which are marked; time of returning to school is also of importance. The culmination of the game is constituted by taking part in a Kahoot quiz. Pupils answer questions concerning history and life of Jan Nowak Jezioranski.
QR codes and Kahoot appeared in our street game only some editions before and this excellent link between the past and present is highly enjoyed by our pupils.
The game has many cross-subject topics, teaches students well how to cooperate in groups, how to be flexible, find efficient procedures to succeed. Students are motivated and full of emotions. They love such an activity.
